...reviews? (so I don't buy another crappy game again!!)? I want the best site that tells me if I should buy a game or not and it describes how the game is played. it would be nice if it went by genre.

There is no spoon.

Just put in the game you want a review on in the text box and get reviews from gamers who've actually played it:

Maybe renting would be best, Like gameznflix you can rent games and receive in the mail and if you like it buy it and when you buy it they ship you the box and manual and the box and manual are untouched so..

I think Gamespot is the best online site, but I'd highly recommend getting a subscription to PC Gamer. Their reviews are unmatched and they're almost always spot on. You can usually get a two-year subscription for a mere $40 for the CD edition (the non-CD edition would be even less, but I don't have that so I don't know the price). It's certainly worth it, IMO.

To search by genre, go to http://www.gamespot.com - if you know what you're looking for in particular, go to http://www.gamefaqs.com/, and there are links to the review on gamespot, plus player reviews. IGN is also a decent source for reviews.

I don't know what your cable channels are like, but I have G4, and I watch X-Play. It's on from 8-9 on weeknights, and sometimes from 5-6, and they have really good reviews of games, which tends to tip me off on some random games that I might otherwise never have heard about.

Also, I frequent gamestop and eb games, and have one of their discount cards- it's like $15, and you get a subscription to Game Informer, which is a not too bad magazine with some ok reviews - but if something in the magazine sounds interesting, I usually check out a few player reviews on gamefaqs, and the review on gamestop. Gamestop has very comprehensive reviews and lots of pictures, so it gives you a good idea of what you're getting into. This combination of tactics has yet to steer me wrong. Good luck to you!

it will eventaully come down to personal opinion. Take the game Longest Journey2, its been ailed as a great adventure game by alot of sites but is a pile of $hit. all reviews are based on opinions and others wont always agree, so if you can jsut rent them or play the demos first.

Game reviews aren't reliable. The best way to not buy a crappy game is to rent the game you're interested in before you buy it. You're not stuck with a dumb game that way.

Also, GameStop *will take back* ANY game that you buy from them IF you take it back within a week. It doesn't matter whether it's brand-new or used...if you don't like the game, you can return it for a full refund. The details of this policy are outlined on the receipt, but I did it once and they didn't hassle me about it.
