Infoseek, What Happened?! This used to be a popular search engine 7 years ago. Why did it fall from grace???

That's a good question MHJ, and I don't exactly know the answer.

I think, in part, it was just around that time that google got started and was getting very popular. Not to mention that yahoo themselves was using google's search engine to do their own searches.

I think it would be a combination of infoseek not spreading out fast enough and concentrating too fully on the search engine aspect of it's site to hold on after the tech bubble burst. Yahoo was able to hold on due to the fact that they really spread themselves out very well into other services, and Google in general wasn't yet a ballooning giant that was spending hundreds of foozball tables. I might be wrong though :)...

I think Google just put the money into the hot spots and got the PR they needed... got out there and nabbed the spotlight and went with it.

I'm still pissed at their deal with China, however.

I mean you got to do what you got to do..

If its good for business... they dont care for their " Dont be evil " punchline

it's just funny to see them posturing that they won't help out Homeland Security when they're willing to sell out to China and help censor the Chinese people... two-faced, to say the least!

And you never know what google is upto next..maybe taking over china... they got sats up there you know

Yah, we'll never know what google is up to next coz they have lots of ideas to implement in the internet and so they always have something 'new' to share.

we'll see if any of these new sites survive more than a year or two - thank god private enterprise keeps the market honest!
