I know I'm going to get drilled with this but it has to be stated. I started with Visual BASIC . Visual BASIC is easy to learn. If you want to learn how to program, pick up a Visual BASIC. Here's link to a book that might help you. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/186100222X/infogeniuscom/102-0221298-1076904
(I had BASIC in here and forgot to add Visual in front.)

Visual Basic 6 is ready to take on the Internet with a variety of options for Web development, both on the server and client side. That's the argument of Professional VB6 Web Programming, a wide-ranging tour of the strengths of VB for Internet development on the Microsoft DNA platform.
Hope this answers kartik's question :)

I've heard of Basic, but I've never actually tried to use it. Do you know of any web resources for learning it? And how long would you estimate it takes to learn?

It will take awhile to learn. You best bet is to learn HTML fully first.

Probably a good idea. :-) But it does seem as if there's always something new to learn, with HTML...I guess that's not a bad thing. :-)

I believe there is always many things to learn, especially programming, IT, computers... this course is always updating itself and you have to cope up with the trend and the speed of their updates.
