Perhaps what MHJ is trying to say is that it is one of the source of good money making online venture as when you have lots of traffic to your site, it means more chances to be able to have sales of products and services.

Actually, I think he was referring to the hundreds if not thousands of people who use SEO as a second source of income. (Or a primary one!) For example, my 'regular' job is writing fiction, but that's a starving-artist kind of work. Don't look for my name on the bestseller list, because it's not there (yet. ;-). So, I write SEO articles (short 300-500 word articles centered around an assigned keyword, incorporating that keyword a certain number of times) for a company who specializes in providing relevent content to their customers. Lots of people write articles, as I do; others may be more involved in tracking down links or the more technical aspects of optimizing your site. (What keywords to focus on, for example.)

the only problem with writing SEO-rich articles is that the content can suffer as you try to cram in the phrase as many times as possible... so it may not be as "good" as if you weren't trying to hit the search engine buttons!

Sometimes (just between us) the keyword phrases I'm given to work with do NOT lend themselves to easily blending into an article. And I have a maximum number of times to use the keyword as well as a minimum, (rather clever on my current employer's part, I thought) so there's not as much problem with cramming. The worst part about it, as far as I can see, is that I get paid by article as long as it meets their length and keyword and formatting requirements. How good the writing is is completely up to me. If I've had a bad day...well, tough luck for someone. :-)

oh, I hear you totally - and that's the problem with SEO, IMO - it tends to degrade the article because it's hard for the author to put a good article together with this restriction without it turning into some sort of crap, personally...

I've noticed this, absolutely. The number of HORRID pseudo articles
from people calling themselves writers *really* bugs me. The web is
getting further and further from good content the longer this goes on.

See how many times you can cram the word "money" into a piece of
writing that a 5 year old could do and call yourself a writer.. GRRRRR!
