You can download Visual Basic Express from Microsoft, which is free. It is .Net based.
If you have Microsoft Office, it uses Visual Basic for Applications as its scripting language. It is a little bit easier to start learning it from MS Access. It is essentialy almost the same as Visual Basic 6, but all the controls (buttons, text, forms, etc) and the user interface are completely different.
