I see that many people are in the business of buying and/or selling turnkeys nowadays. Has anyone been successful in taking one of these types of sites to the next level? Please let us know as well as what type of site it was.

Damn...
We are talking about " TURN KEY " not turkey :p
Turn - key projects are those which you can just setup real soon and you dont have to do coding.

So...what exactly is a turnkey project? Is it like using phpBB to set up a forum, or is it something different?
Totally confused, here....my normal state of affairs, actually.

LOL..
Yep.. turnkey are simple 1 click install scripts...
Like Phpbb vbulletin.. there are loads of them... the phpfox script for dating is a "turnkey"
Turn key project evolves from the concept of manufacturing projects that huge industries used to take.
The factory, material , machines everything is set up.. the owner only needs to turn the key to open the factory and everything works automatically.
Turn key web projects is something similar to that ;)

So in web hosting, "turnkey" refers to out-of-the-box applications like phpBB and moveableType, etc.?
In most business, the term refers to an entire business that someone sells you that's already set up and ready to go. So I thought it meant, maybe, somebody has already developed a website and is ready to sell it to a new owner.
The elimination of coding would totally make life simpler for a great number of people!
