I'm probably the only person who thinks of links in terms of what's relevant to my site and my visitors, rather than boosting traffic. *shrug*

I wouldn't knock driving traffic to a site. It is also a significant way a site gets ranked in the search engines

I think of both. I try to stick with relevant links (but lots of them!) so that they mean something to site visitors...and drive traffic! There are enough relevant sites out there that you can have both.

Actually, it goes together. If you are concerned with what's relevant to your visitors and so you put much content and quality articles/matters in your site, it will follow that targeted traffic will also come in and marketing boosts. Linking is actually another form of marketing and if your site is relevant or of high quality, traffic just comes in.
