...for a noobie? I would like to start developing basic websites for small local businesses that still do not have one. I have great marketing and sales skills and all I need is the website development skills. I am just looking to do this on a part time (second income) level to start out. I have begun learning from books and online courses today and I feel like I have already accomplished alot. Is there a general time frame for how long it will take me to make good looking websites if im a quick learner. A general idea, aka 1 month, 6 months, 2 weeks will work. Thanks
Well, I am in an intro to web design class right now, and after asking the teacher, for a quick learned basic coding wouldn't take too long. Probably about 6 weeks
Hope my teacher and I helped

It took me around six months, but it depends on how much time you have on hand.

That really depends on what kind of level you want to design websites at - it's not just about HTML and CSS, there's graphics and whether your website requires forms, javascripts, etc. Since you want to develop your skills into a business, one way you can try and get started immediately is to help small businesses get an online presence immediately. You can do that by using Microsoft Office Live Small Business, a free service - http://starturl.com/officelive . With it, you can build professional websites for your customers using its online design tool that doesn't require coding (you can add HTML/CSS to it to customize). Currently, MS is offering a free domain name for the first year. Your customers also get 100 free email accounts. This way, your base service is free and you can charge for implementing the package for them.

I've been programming and designing for well over a year and a half now. It took me about 6-7 months to understand HTML and CSS to the point where I don't have to go back and forth to a reference. I memorize all of it now. A really good web site that I will recommend, and that will break down the code for you and give you visual examples of what each thing does is: w3school.com
