Want to try Photoshop, but upgrade problems?

I want to purchase Photoshop, but the CS versions tell me I can't since they are upgrades, so where the heck do I start with the software? What version do I buy to be able to use the program?

If you want to purchase Photoshop, any software retailer will sell you the full version (non-upgrade). The upgrade version requires that you have a previous version on your computer to install.
You can also buy directly from Adobe, but they're probably more expensive.
If you're a student, I would inquire about student pricing through your school or directly from Adobe. They usually have an "Education" version of their software.
