Banner Exchange

I have read from one forum poster in another forum that banner exchange or link exchange is not that effective because most sites don't respond when invited for an exchange. Any experience from posters in this forum?

I can't speak about banner exchanges, but I've had very good luck exchanging links with other sites. The trick is to find sites that have similar content to yours, sites who are as interested in getting some of your traffic as you are in getting some of theirs. Then send a polite email, listing a couple of reasons (driving their traffic to your site should *not* be one of them!) why you'd like to exchange links, and include a link to your website so they can visit it and make sure they want to exchange links with you.

true - I dislike sites that have irrevelant links all over the place - don't just go for ANY link, get those that are relevant to your site and not just stacking them up one atop the other...

But, think about it: how many times have you ended up following links on a website you liked, and finding another website that you liked just as much?

but it's got to be something not so totally opposite to the website content that it's silly... I mean, a random hit is interesting, but I want to have them also link back to me with relevance!

That's common sense, also and should be noted and considered. Links should be relevant. Only a few people would appreciate links which aren't related to the site they are visiting, just a matter of having the right timing that they also like the other links but if not, what now?

I do agree that you must have websites with simular content when exchanging a link with another site, I too have had good luck with exchanging links and so have the counterparts I have exchanged my link with.
