My email box is floaded with negative feedback from my fellow SEO peers, saying it was not "professional" of me.

I just don't see the negative, maybe I am missing something?

I went to your link, and what is says is very vague.

What it looks like they are trying to do, is gimmick search keywords for web pages to get more hits.

They trick people into clicking onto web sites that the people were not really looking for, thus wasting that person's time, and wasting Internet bandwidth.

They make money this way, by pay per click, but since the click was from a potential client, who was not really looking for that product, it was a fraudulent and wasted click, and cheats the company who purchased the click.

Does that make sense?
